As 2015 comes to an end we want to thank all of our readers. We hope you continue to enjoy our lighthearted sports newsletter.

Happy Holidays and please feel free to share TINK with friends and family. See you in 2016!

National Football League (NFL)

This coming week is the final week of the NFL regular season and the playoffs are almost set. Start making your January football viewing plans!

Undefeated no longer. The Carolina Panthers, the league’s only unbeaten team going into the week, were defeated by the Atlanta Falcons and are now 14-1 (still the best record in the NFL).

QB Kirk Cousins, the guy with the awkward “You Like That” post-win declaration, led the Washington Redskins to a 38-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, finishing with 365 passing yards and four touchdowns to win the NFC East and clinch the #4 seed.

Pop the champagne (or fire up the BBQ) in Kansas City. The Kansas City Chiefs dropped the Cleveland Browns 17-13, winning their ninth straight game and securing a playoff spot. For the first time ever, the Chiefs (NFL) and the Royals (MLB) are playoff teams in the same season.

The New York Jets needed overtime and a strange coin flip to beat the New England Patriots and Tom Brady 26-20. With the Pittsburgh Steelers losing Sunday, the Jets make the playoffs with a win over the Buffalo Bills (who are led by former Jets coach Rex Ryan) this Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings embarrassed the New York Giants 49-17 to clinch a playoff berth. Next week the Vikings play the Green Bay Packers, who were crushed by the red-hot Arizona Cardinals 38-8, to determine the NFC North winner.

On Monday Night Football, in a battle of teams led by backup quarterbacks, the Denver Broncos defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17 in overtime. The win puts the Broncos in the playoffs.

The New Year’s ball in Times Square is not the only thing to drop this week…Broncos QB and NFL poster boy Peyton Manning is being accused of using Human Growth Hormone (HGH), a banned substance by the NFL. Manning vehemently denies the allegations. Stay tuned…

College Football

College football fans will ring in the New Year with several huge games on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Here are the top contests:

Team Team Date
#1 Clemson #4 Oklahoma Dec 31 @ 4:00pm ET
#2 Alabama #3 Michigan State Dec 31 @ 4:00pm ET
#7 Ohio State #8 Notre Dame Jan 1 @ 1:00pm ET
#5 Iowa #6 Stanford Jan 1 @ 5:00pm ET

National Hockey League (NHL)

Speaking of New Year’s Day, the NHL has a great tradition of playing its Winter Classic game outdoors (think cold!) on Jan 1. This year’s contest features an intense rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens visiting the Boston Bruins at Gillette Stadium, home of the NFL’s New England Patriots.

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Ho Ho Ho…The NBA had its Christmas Day extravaganza with five games providing memorable moments as well as funky uniforms and sneakers.

In the marquee matchup of the night, the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by reigning MVP Stephen Curry and emerging all-around star Draymond Green. The Cavs’ LeBron James may have lost the game but won big with his “Let’s Go To Work” Samsung Commercial, lip-synching to Public Enemy. He must have read our TINK newsletter tribute to Public Enemy: “Fight The Power.”

Remember at TINK Sports we watch the games so you don’t have to.

See you next time…
