In Search of Intrigue

HBO’s Game of Thrones is over but viewers seeking intrigue and entertainment can turn to Netflix’s Fauda, which kicks off its third season Thursday.  Sports fans have plenty of intrigue as the NBA and NHL are approaching their Finals.

Let’s take a look at some of the action across the sports landscape…

TINK Sports Big-3

Here are three things you need to know:

1) The NBA Playoffs are nearing the Finals and the Golden State Warriors keep rolling

2) The NHL Finals are around the corner with the Boston Bruins waiting for their opponent

3) Brooks Koepka won golf’s PGA tournament Sunday earning his fourth Major in the last two years

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Battle of the titans…The Eastern Conference Finals features two of the NBA’s top players and has intrigue (unlike the West).  The Toronto Raptors’ Kawhi Leonard continues his amazing playoffs performance as he fought through injury to led his team to an overtime win Sunday.  The Raptors’ opponent, the Milwaukee Bucks, are led by top MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo, aka “The Greek Freak.”  Milwaukee leads the series 2-1 with game four in Toronto Tuesday night.  #FearTheDeer #NorthOverEverything

In the Western Conference the Golden State Warriors are proving why they are the best team in the league, and among the best ever.  The Warriors have won three of the last four NBA titles, will be appearing in their fifth straight NBA Finals (only accomplished once, 53 years ago, by the Boston Celtics), and are favorites to win it all again.  Equally impressive is that Golden State finished off the Houston Rockets and swept the Portland Trail Blazers without Kevin Durant, arguably the NBA’s best player, who is out with a calf injury. #Dynasty #Unstoppable

The NBA Finals begin Thursday, May 30.

National Hockey League (NHL)

Ice, Ice Baby…The Boston Bruins have reached the NHL Finals by virtue of a 4-0 sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes in the East Finals.  The Bruins are awaiting the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks winner.  The Blues lead the series 3-2 with Game 6 Tuesday.

The Finals teams compete for championship glory and also the best trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup.

The Stanley Cup Finals begin Monday, May 27 in Boston.

Golf

Professional golf held its second of four Majors last weekend, on a public course – Bethpage Black – no less.  While may were buzzing over Tiger Wood’s comeback after winning the Masters last month, the star was Brooks Koepka.  Koepka won his second consecutive PGA Tournament (a feat last accomplished in 1950’s) and fourth Major in the last two years after taking a record seven stroke lead into the final round and (barely) holding off Dustin Johnson Sunday.  For his efforts, he took home the Wanamaker Trophy – not quite the Stanley cup but impressive nonetheless.

Soccer

Historic year, don’t you think.  Manchester City pulled off the English domestic treble.  Translation please.  Man City became the first men’s squad to win the three English football (soccer) titles: Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup championship.

Major League Baseball (MLB)

Atop the MLB standings sit the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins in the American League and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

How am I doing, doc?  Watch out for the New York Yankees, however, as they have been winning despite several of their best players out with injury but due to return shortly.
