The rock ‘n’ roll world mourns Chuck Berry and his unforgettable style, and Beauty and the Beast is back making sweet music at the box office.

The other sounds you hear this week are the roar of winning fans and cries of agony from the losers. March Madness is in full stride as the NCAA Tournament got down to the Sweet 16 over the weekend.

The rest of the sports world has its own stories as baseball goes international, and hockey and professional basketball are nearing their playoffs.

College Basketball

How Sweet it is.   That’s what the 16 schools still alive in the NCAA Tournament are saying.

If your bracket is busted, you are not alone. After a relatively uneventful first two Tournament days, the weekend brought major upsets. Defending champion #1 Villanova, Las Vegas odds-maker favorite #2 Duke and #2 Louisville were all sent back to campus with crushing losses.

Here are the teams still alive and singing their fight songs:

East West
#3 Baylor #1 Gonzaga
#4 Florida #2 Arizona
#7 South Carolina #4 West Virginia
#8 Wisconsin #11 Xavier

South Midwest
#1 North Carolina #1 Kansas
#2 Kentucky #3 Oregon
#3 UCLA #4 Purdue
#4 Butler #7 Michigan

The boys are at it again. Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee return to the air with their hilarious look at March Madness. “Steaks On A Plane” anyone?

Need to catch your breath from all the hoop-la? The tourney resumes Thursday night through the weekend narrowing the field down to the Final Four.

On the Women’s side, to say UConn keeps rolling would be an understatement. The 34-0 Lady Huskies crushed #16 Albany by 61 points Saturday and dropped #8 Syracuse 94-64 Monday. UConn is only four wins away from a fifth-straight national title. #Dominance

UConn is not the only Women’s hoops squad imposing their will on opponents. Baylor beat Texas Southern 119-30 setting the record for most point scored and highest margin of victory in a tournament game.

National Basketball Association (NBA)

The same tune? Three weeks from the playoffs and the NBA elite are the same as they have been most of the season. The two best teams in the Eastern Conference are the LeBron James-led, defending champion, Cleveland Cavaliers followed by the Boston Celtics. In the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs continue to flex their muscle.

On the individual front, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook and Houston Rockets guard James Harden are having historically sweet seasons. Only one can win MVP, thought, and it will likely be Westbrook.

Major League Baseball (MLB)

While the boys of summer are preparing for the April 2nd MLB season start, the World Baseball Classic (a 16-country professional baseball tournament) comes to an end this week.

Team USA answered their critics by defeating the defending champion Dominican Republic. Despite baseball being “America’s Pastime,” the US squad has been accused of not taking the WBC seriously and has only advanced to the championship round in one previous tournament. Adam Jones’ spectacular catch helped ensure that Team USA advanced past the DR.

Team USA will face Japan Tuesday night in LA for a spot in the championship game.
