Say Goodbye to September

The Pope is gone and so is September but don’t worry TINK Sports will help bring you into the Fall. As you transition to Blindspot, Best Time Ever or await the return of Homeland, let’s look what’s going on in sports…

NFL

The Good – the NFL now has seven 3-0 teams: the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos in the AFC as well as the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals in the NFC. The best performance of Week 3 may have been Aaron Rodgers’ five TDs in a Monday Night romp of the Kansas City Chiefs 38-28.

The Bad – on the flip side the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints are all 0-3. Though the season is not officially cancelled like State of Affairs or Marry Me, fans in those great cities get your crab cakes, brats and jambalaya ready as you watch other teams compete for the playoffs.

The Ugly – just when the Pittsburgh Steelers started to look good and got their star RB Le’Veon Bell back from suspension, QB Ben Roethlisberger sprained his knee and will be out 4-6 weeks.

College Football

There were two big road victories this past weekend as #9 UCLA went to #16 Arizona and thrashed the home team 56-30 only to be outdone by #18 Utah who visited Eugene and crushed #13 Oregon 62-20. Michigan joined the victory parade with a 31-0 stomping of #22 BYU in the Big House. #3 TCU needed a miracle tip in the end zone to escape Texas Tech and keep the team’s National Championship and their QB’s Heisman Trophy hopes alive.

Speaking of the Heisman race, talk is beginning and everything is pointing to the Bayou and Baton Rouge where LSU sophomore RB Leonard Fournette is running away from the pack. He is averaging a nation’s best 210 yards per game and is keeping USC QB Cody Kessler, UCLA RB Paul Perkins, TCU QB Trevone Boykin, Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott and Georgia RB Nick Chubb in his rear view mirror.

MLB

The MLB playoffs start next week and the only major question is who will face the New York Yankees in the American League wildcard game. The contenders are the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels and the Minnesota Twins. Watch out for the Los Angeles Angels as they are the hottest team of the bunch and have the league’s best player and defending MVP, Mike Trout, and former MVP Albert Pujols.

The American League’s top team entering the playoffs will be the Toronto Blue Jays (a team that hasn’t participated in the postseason since 1993) or the Kansas City Royals (the defending American League champions). The National League’s #1 squad will be the St. Louis Cardinals, who last won the World Series in 2011. Play Ball!
