Here are three things you need to know:

1) The NFL regular season ends next week, and most teams and their fans know whether they’re in or out of the playoffs

2) College football’s Bowl games are in full swing

3) The NBA’s two goliaths met again on Christmas Day and the Golden State Warriors once again prevailed over the Cleveland Cavaliers

National Football League (NFL)

Playoffs are the talk of the NFL as most of the post-season matchups have been determined.

Welcome to the party. The new members of the playoff club who punched their ticket this weekend are the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.

The only mystery is who will secure the sixth and final seed in each conference. In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons are fighting it out while in the AFC the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills trail the Baltimore Ravens for the final spot.

Schedule alert…The NFL regular season ends this weekend and the playoffs begin Saturday, Jan 6.

NFL Week 16 ended Christmas Day with two of the league’s best teams on display. The Pittsburgh Steelers looked dominant in a win as they tune up for the playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles, who lost starting QB and MVP candidate Carson Wentz to injury a couple weeks ago, also won but are limping into the playoffs.

Then there is Fantasy Football. You know that phenomenon where folks check their phone all day Sunday hoping to accumulate points based on real player stats. Now that the season is finally over, fantasy team owners can get to all the chores they’ve been avoiding since September.

College Football

Get your bowling shoes on. The college football Bowl season kicked off last week but the best teams tee off this week. The National Semifinals take place New Year’s Day, and with the late start fans can sleep off their hangover and enjoy the games.

Here is the playoff schedule:

#2 Oklahoma vs. #3 Georgia – 5:00pm ET

#1 Clemson vs. #4 Alabama – 8:45pm ET

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Basketball takes a back seat to football for a couple months at the beginning of every NBA season but the league had its annual coming out party with five Christmas Day games.

No Steph, no problem…The marquee contest was a matchup of the last three NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors, playing without two-time MVP Steph Curry, pulled away from the Cleveland Cavaliers down the stretch and won 99-92. The regular season rematch will take place January 15th in Cleveland but most are anticipating a fourth-straight NBA Finals meeting in June when it really counts.

National Hockey League (NHL)

Don’t forget your hat and gloves…In a fun throwback to youth hockey, The NHL plays its annual Winter Classic game New Year’s Day. The twist – its outdoors. This year’s matchup will take place at Citi Field (home of baseball’s New York Mets) as the New York Rangers host the Buffalo Sabres.

College Basketball

Football isn’t the only sport generating buzz on college campuses. The college basketball season is in full swing, and after roughly one-third of the season there are just three undefeated teams (all 12-0):

#1 Villanova

#3 Arizona State

#10 TCU

The action heats up in January as teams position themselves for the NCAA Tournament, aka March Madness.
