Politics in America has officially gone off the rails and the sports world has not avoided the wrath. The latest POTUS action on immigration has two NBA players wondering about their status.

We said goodbye to Mary Tyler Moore, a TV icon ahead of her time with a character encouraging women to take the path less traveled.

Legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger is calling it quits. With nearly 50 years entertaining fans, the 77-year-old had plenty of great moments, and a few infamous ones too, including gawking a former Miss Alabama.

The Australian Open brought age-defying wins, and we can’t wait to see what the Sunday’s Super Bowl has in store.

Tennis

Age is just a number, mate. In the Australian Open continued greatness was on display from a pair of 35-year-old legends.

Serena Williams won her 23rd Major tennis title beating sister Venus Williams and moving into second place on the all-time Majors list (only one short of the record).

Roger Federer beat his nemesis Rafael Nadal (possibly the second-best Men’s tennis player of all time) to take home his record 18th Major title.

Legacies cemented…A round of applause for two GOATs (Greatest of All Time). Bravo Roger and Serena.

National Football League (NFL)

Super Bowl Sunday is only a few days away. Are you ready?

Hosting a shindig and need to bring it in the kitchen? How about some New England clam chowder and Georgia Southern fried chicken to represent the dueling allegiances at your Super Bowl Party.

TINK tidbits for the big game:

  • The New England Patriots are making a record ninth Super Bowl appearance and have won four times.
  • The Pats are led by Tom Brady, seeking his fifth Super Bowl win. If that happens, Brady will be tied with one other player for most wins ever by a player, and certainly secure his position as the best quarterback of all time.
  • Coach Bill Belichick is looking to win his seventh Super Bowl (most of all time) as a coach – fifth as a head coach.

  • The Atlanta Falcons are the new kids on the block, appearing in just their second Super Bowl (1999 was their other appearance).
  • They are led by presumptive MVP Matt Ryan aka Matty Ice.

Game Details:

Date: Sunday, February 5th at 6:30pm ET on FOX

Location: Houston, TX

Halftime: Lady Gaga

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Think the drama was limited to the SAG awards Sunday night? Look no further than the Chicago Bulls who had high hopes for this season but the warm and fuzzies are evaporating as the team is dealing with internal fighting more likely to be seen on General Hospital.

Panic in Cleveland? Close. LeBron James and his defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, expected to coast to a third-straight NBA Finals, went 7-8 in January. The last time LeBron’s team had a losing record in a month was February 2006.

College Basketball

Students at top-10 ranked basketball schools had plenty of angst, and it wasn’t over bio, calculus or history exams. Seven of the top 10 squads, including #1 Villanova and #2 Kansas, lost last week. Good thing they play a big tournament, aka March Madness, in a couple months to settle the argument of who’s the best college basketball team.

It was on Saturday between #2 Kansas and #4 Kentucky. The two winningest programs in college basketball history threw down, and Kansas won 79-73.

Go Gonzaga Go. The only undefeated Division I college basketball team at 22-0, Gonzaga, is ranked #1 for only the second time in school history. Party in Spokane!

This week’s Men’s AP top-5 rankings are:

#1 Gonzaga

#2 Baylor

#3 Kansas

#4 Villanova

#5 Arizona
