The Kings and Queens of college basketball were crowned Sunday and Monday. Following in college hoops’ footsteps, the professional hockey and basketball seasons are winding down and their playoffs begin next week.

The Boys of Summer kicked off baseball’s six-month regular season journey last week but weather was a factor for some.

Here are three things you need to know:

1) Villanova is the NCAA men’s basketball champion for the second time in three years

2) The women’s champ is Notre Dame who won two heart-stopping games over the weekend

3) One of Golf’s premier events, the Masters, starts Thursday

College Basketball

March Madness spilled over into April, and the kings of college basketball were crowned Monday night. Villanova dismantled Michigan 79-62 in the Finals to claim the 2018 National Championship.

The star of star was Donte DiVincenzo who scored a game high 31 points…off the bench. With their second National Championship in three years, college basketball has a new powerhouse.

Only two months removed from the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl win, Philly has become championship city.

Deja-Deja-Vu. In a fantastic weekend of basketball, the Women’s tournament had two thrilling games with similar outcomes. Everyone’s choice to win it all, #1 seeded and undefeated UConn, entered the Final Four at 36-0 but lost in the Semifinals Saturday. UConn was an identical 36-0 and had won an incredible 111 in a row before being sent home in last year’s semis.

Queen of the court…Notre Dame beat the Goliath of women’s basketball on a once-in-a-lifetime three pointer in overtime by Arike Ogunbowale. However nobody told Arike that her shot was a rarity so she went out and hit another game-winning trey to beat Mississippi State and capture the title.

National Basketball Association (NBA)

With five games left in the regular season, NBA fans are looking forward to the playoffs and the games meaning something. The teams to beat in the Eastern Conference are the Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics and LeBron “King” James’ Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the West, the leaders of the pack all season have been the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, and they are not surprisingly the playoff favorites.

Major League Baseball (MLB)

Boys of Summer? Really? The MLB season started Thursday and baseball fans are rejoicing. New Yorkers were frustrated Monday as the New York Yankees and New York Mets were both snowed out. Yes. Snow in April.

Even Steven…Each of the 30 MLB teams has played three or four games so far this season, and there are only two undefeated squads: the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Golf

The golf world’s focus shifts to Augusta, Georgia this week. The Masters, one of sport’s marquee tournaments, runs Thursday through Sunday when the champion will be presented with a green jacket.
