Fifty Shades Freed took over the #1 box office position from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It’s hard to feel bad for Jumanji, though, as it is closing in on $900 million in worldwide revenue.

Now let’s take a look at competition in the sports world…

Three things you need to know:

1) The Winter Olympics are in full swing in South Korea with sports and politics sharing the stage

2) The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers shipped away half the team and are trying to salvage the season

3) Virginia is the center of the college basketball world for the fist time since E.T. was topping the worldwide box office charts (1982, if you forgot)

Olympics

The Winter Olympics kicked off Friday, and the medal count leaders – not surprisingly – are Norway, Germany, Netherlands and Canada.

Youth is served…The US ranks fifth in the medal count, and Red Gerard brought home the country’s first gold of these Olympics. The snowboarder was born in 2000. Remember Y2K? His Colorado hometown was so excited it changed its name. Another 17-year-old, Chloe Kim, the favorite in the halfpipe, won gold for the US Tuesday.

How do you say antsy in Korean? That describes the alpine skiers who have been grounded for two days by high winds.

Peace on the peninsula or political games? Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, was a hit at the PyeongChang games. This was the first time a North Korean ruling family member has been in the South since the Korean War, which began in 1950. She extended an invitation to South Korean leader Moon Je-in to meet with her brother. Let the games begin…

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Panic mode. Then, blow it up. Then, change is good. These were the sentiments voiced by Cleveland fans last week when their underachieving Cleveland Cavaliers traded away half their team in a rare mid-season rebuild.

Any results yet? In their first game together, the new-look Cavs were all smiles after they took out the Eastern Conference leading Boston Celtics 121-99 in Boston. The win is particularly intriguing because the Cavs traded LeBron’s co-star Kyrie Irving to Boston in the off-season.

College Basketball

Virginia is for…ballers? For the first time since 1982 (when Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” topped the Billboard charts), Virginia sits atop the college basketball rankings. Despite losing to Virginia Tech in overtime Saturday, UVA edged out Michigan State for the top ranking.

Not to worry, all the arguments about who is the best team will be settled on the court in a few weeks in the NCAA tournament (aka March Madness).

Here are this week’s AP-top 5 teams.

1) Virginia

2) Michigan State

3) Villanova

4) Xavier

5) Cincinnati
