Philadelphia Eagles fans can’t stop celebrating their Super Bowl win. Can you blame them? Their team hasn’t won a football title since 1960 – before the Super Bowl era began.

Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the sports world…

Three things you need to know:

1) The Eagles won their first Super Bowl Sunday, and all is sunny in Philadelphia

2) The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers are a mess and far from a lock to make the NBA Finals

3) The 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea start Thursday

National Football League (NFL)

Now that the nachos and wings have been eaten, the ads have been watched, and the game has been played, we can reflect on Super Bowl 52.

Flying high…The Philadelphia Eagles are World Champions – well at least NFL champs. The underdog Eagles, led by backup QB Nick Foles, beat the New England Patriots to win their first Super Bowl in three tries.

Philadelphia was playing for a city starved since 1960 for a football title. The Patriots on the other hand were trying to add to their dynasty – seeking a record sixth Super Bowl championship for the team, coach Bill Belichick and QB Tom Brady.

The action-packed game was a rematch of Super Bowl 39. This time, however, the Eagles came out on top, and long-suffering fans have been going nuts. Look for a sea of green to take over the City of Brotherly Love for Thursday’s celebration parade. The event is such a big deal that Philly public schools will be closed.

If the action on the field wasn’t enough to keep you interested, Justin Timberlake and the Super Bowl ads provided a solid distraction.

Looking ahead to next year? The Pats are the early favorites in Las Vegas sports books to win next year’s big game. Here are the Super Bowl 53 details:

Date: Sunday February 3, 2019

Location: Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA

Entertainment: TBD

National Basketball Association (NBA)

The Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors are flying high atop the Eastern Conference standings. In the West, the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets, the teams with the NBA’s two best records, are the top dogs.

While these four teams are soaring, the Cleveland Cavaliers are sputtering going just 7-13 in their last 20 games. LeBron James and company need to turn it around soon if they hope to make their fourth straight NBA Finals, as many predicted.

College Basketball

With college and professional football done for the season and the calendar turning to February, college basketball returns to the spotlight.

There was change atop the college basketball rankings this week. Here are this week’s AP-top 5 teams.

1) Villanova

2) Virginia

3) Purdue

4) Michigan State

5) Xavier

Olympics

Remember that event that takes place every four years? It’s back. The Winter Olympics opening ceremony is Thursday, and the games run until February 25th. The Olympiad in PyeongChang, South Korea will have lots of intrigue, and may even help thaw the icy relations between North and South.
