The sports world is on fire like Blade Runner 2049 at the box office this week. Baseball is in the throws of its playoffs, while college and pro football are heating up. If that isn’t enough sports action, the NHL and NBA are kicking off their seasons.
Big-3
Here are three things you need to know this week:
1) The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros have advanced in the MLB playoffs
2) The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s only undefeated team
3) The NHL season started last week and the NBA campaign tips off next Tuesday
Major League Baseball (MLB)
The baseball playoffs are in full swing, and some teams have already advanced to the next round.

Home sweet home…The New York Yankees are excited. Down 0-2 and facing elimination by the Cleveland Indians, the Yanks returned home from Cleveland, loaded up on pizza and bagels and won the last two games. The deciding game five takes place in Cleveland Wednesday.
Bah-ston was not as hospitable to its Boston Red Sox as the Sox also returned home down 0-2 but were eliminated by the Houston Astros Monday night.
The defending champion Chicago Cubs won another close game Monday and are now up 2-1 in their series versus the Washington Nationals. The Cubs look to close out the series with a victory in the Windy City Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, part-owned by NBA legend Magic Johnson, completed a three game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with a win Monday.
National Football League (NFL)
Oops I did it again…Aaron Rodgers did his best Britney Spears circa 2000 imitation and broke the hearts of Dallas Cowboys fans, again. Rodgers led his Green Bay Packers to a thrilling come-from-behind victory in Dallas, eerily reminiscent of a playoff game between the two teams in January.

Big Apple football fans are confused. The New York Jets, expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL, are 3-2 while their stadium mates, The New York Giants, predicted by many to win their division, are 0-5. As if matters couldn’t get worse, the Giants’ best player, Odell Beckham, Jr. broke his ankle and is out indefinitely.
On Sunday night the surprising Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans to remain the league’s only undefeated team at 5-0. To make matters worse, Houston lost JJ Watt, a former defensive player of the year and hero of hurricane Harvey relief, to a season-ending injury.
The week ended with a glimpse at Mitchell Trubisky – the Chicago Bears’ QB of the future. The rookie showed promise in his first start but the Bears lost to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
College Football
The state of Oklahoma is devastated. No, not because of any natural disasters but because of back-to-back losses by their beloved college football teams. Coming on the heels of then-undefeated Oklahoma State’s loss last week, unblemished Oklahoma fell to Iowa State at home Saturday despite being a whopping 31-point favorite.

In addition to the physical punishment, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield’s Heisman Trophy chances may have taken a serious hit.
The new AP top-5 college football teams are
1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) Penn State
4) Georgia
5) Washington
National Hockey League (NHL)
The NHL season started last week and everyone is gunning for the two-time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The rest of league is taking comfort in the fact that no team has won three consecutive Stanley Cup titles since the New York Islanders in the early 80s.
Washington Capitals perennial all-star Alex Ovechkin is off to a roaring start, having scored seven goals in his team’s first two games. Any explanation? Maybe it’s the pre-game Chicken Alfredo? #SpecialSauce
National Basketball Association (NBA)
FYI – the 2017-18 NBA season starts October 17th.
