There’s a new NCAA men’s basketball champion in Philadelphia. Equally important: our readers have spoken and we have a winner in the TINK Sports Living Entertainers Bracket.

TINK Sports Entertainers “Bracket”

After starting with 64 talented entertainers, the TINK bracket dwindled down to a battle of two mega-talented ladies. On one side, Tina Fey, the genius comic writer and actress, took down Tom Hanks, considered Hollywood’s nicest guy. On the other side of the bracket, Beyoncé, the world’s biggest pop diva, beat out the billionaire media mogul, Oprah Winfrey.

In the end, Beyoncé was too much for Tina and took home the title. Queen Bey finally put a crown on it! Beyoncé has no time to celebrate, however, as she’s promoting her new athleisure line Ivy Park and running the world.

Men’s College Basketball

This year’s March Madness brought plenty of excitement and some blowouts too. Saturday night gave us two dominant semi-final performances: Villanova’s record-setting 44-point victory over Oklahoma, and North Carolina’s 17-point win over Syracuse.

Go Cats Go…The North Carolina Tar Heels and Villanova Wildcats met in a spectacular final Monday night in front of over 70,000 spectators in Houston. The game ended on two incredible shots. First, UNC’s Marcus Paige hit an off-balance three pointer to tie the game with just 4.7 seconds remaining, then Villanova’s Kris Jenkins canned a three pointer as time expired to win the game, 77-74.

Jenkins’ trey was the first championship-winning shot since 1983. The victory is Villanova’s second national title, and first since 1985. Party in Philly.

Women’s College Basketball

Cementing the Dynasty…The undefeated (37-0) Connecticut women’s squad faces Syracuse on Tuesday night as it attempts to win its fourth straight national title and 11th overall since coach Geno Auriemma arrived in Storrs.  Star Forward Breanna Stewart is looking to complete her magical career, winning a fourth championship and fourth tournament Most Outstanding Player.

National Basketball Association (NBA)

Champing at the bit…After a three-month injury absence and a four-game suspension, Los Angeles Clippers star and media darling Blake Griffin returned to action on Sunday in a win over the Washington Wizards. With Blake back, the Clippers are hoping to challenge the West’s elite teams in the playoffs.

The streak is over. The Golden State Warriors (69-8) lost to the Boston Celtics Friday, ending a 54-game home winning streak – the longest in NBA history. The Warriors bounced back with a win Sunday over the Portland Trail Blazers and are still poised to eclipse Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls’ regular season record of 72-10 in the 1995-1996 season.

Home cooking…Despite the Warriors’ winning streak ending, defending MVP Steph Curry will not go hungry. His wife, Ayesha, just signed a deal with Food Network for a cooking show, At Home With Ayesha. Sadly, they missed a golden opportunity to call it The Other Curry.

Soccer

Another broken streak…In Spanish La Liga action, Barcelona lost to Real Madrid 2-1 Saturday in a big match called El Clasico. The loss ended a 34-game home winning streak in all competitions (Spanish and international) for Barca. International soccer (or football outside the US) star Cristiano Ronaldo was ecstatic as he scored the winning goal in the 85th minute.

National Hockey League (NHL)

No Ca-na-da…Despite hockey being Canada’s national pastime, this year’s NHL playoffs will have no Canadian teams for the first time since 1969-70. All you Canadian hockey fans, enjoy a Molson and let’s hope playoff hockey returns to Canada next year, eh?

That’s not all the bad news north of the border. Canadian-born hockey All-Star, Tampa Bay Lightning’s Steven Stamkos will miss the playoffs because of a blood clot near his collarbone.

Stay tuned for NHL coverage as the playoffs start Wednesday, April 13.

Golf

FORE! The first of the year’s four major golf tournaments, The Masters, starts on Thursday at Augusta National in Georgia. The favorites are:

  • Jason Day (Australian – 28 years old)
  • Jordan Spieth (American – 22 years old)
  • Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland – 26 years old)
  • Bubba Watson (American – 37 years old)
  • Adam Scott (Australian – 35 years old)

Major League Baseball (MLB)

The 2016 MLB season started Sunday with four games, including a rematch of last season’s World Series between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals. The outcome of Sunday’s game was the same as in the Fall, as the Royals edged the Mets 4-3 behind a six inning shutout performance by Edinson Volquez.

In addition to being an early World Series favorite, the Chicago Cubs are making dreams come true for some South Side kids.

TINK will bring you MLB updates throughout the season.
