The dog days of summer are here, and the sports world is increasingly focused on baseball. Enjoy your Saturdays and Sundays while they last – college and professional football are right around the corner.
Across the pond tennis fans were treated to a timeless Wimbledon performance, and the historic British Open golf tournament takes place this week.
Tennis
Timeless can be used to describe fine Swiss watches and a Swiss tennis legend, Rodger Federer (35 years old). R-Fed, widely considered the best tennis player ever, did it again Sunday winning at Wimbledon. The victory was his record eighth at the All England Club and 19th major title, most of all-time.

On the Women’s draw, Venus Williams turned back time to reach the Finals but ultimately hit the wall. The 37-year-old Williams was a point away from winning the first set but couldn’t close out and was blanked 6-0 in the second set by 23-year-old Spaniard Gabrine Muguruza.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum are two of the biggest Summer League standouts. They’re helping fans reminiscing about the 80s when these two teams regularly met in the NBA Finals, and fans were wearing Guess jeans and Members Only Jackets.
Is all about the shoes… Ball’s family started a shoe brand and is looking for a big payday. Interestingly, Ball has worn his Big Baller Brand, Nike, Adidas and other brands during games this summer. Confusing? Yes.

Major League Baseball (MLB)
MLB had its All Star break last week and now its back to business. With the playoffs starting in early October there is plenty of baseball left, but right now these are the top teams:
American League:
- Houston Astros own the AL’s best record and are the new MLB darlings
- Boston Red Sox are finally getting it together and are now in first place in the AL East
National League
- Los Angeles Dodgers are the hottest team in baseball and sports the game’s best record
- Washington Nationals are running away with the NL East and a virtual lock for the playoffs, already
Golf
The Open (fka the British Open) starts Thursday and lasts four days. Defending Champion, Swede Henrik Stenson, will be looking to defend his title and take home the $1.85 million first place price. Not bad for a long weekend.
