With all that’s going on in the world we hope you get some enjoyment from a lighter look at happenings in the sports world. Here we go…
Major League Baseball (MLB)
As if folks in Washington DC don’t have enough on their mind with Fake News, Korea, Russia and Obamacare, now the capital’s sports fans have to worry about their best player’s health. Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper, the 24-year-old former MVP, hurt his knee over the weekend causing DC fans to hold their breath. Thankfully Harper only has a bone bruise but may be out for a few weeks.

Breaking with tradition…The New York Yankees are the only North American professional sports team whose players don’t have their names displayed on the back of their jerseys. That is about to change…
Fashion forward? On Aug 25-27 all 30 pro baseball teams will don new uniforms with bright jerseys and contrasting sleeves. Players are encouraged (but not required) to display nicknames instead of surnames. Here is a sneak peak:

Soccer

The stud footballer scored a goal and had an assist in his debut with PSG over the weekend, en route to a 3-0 victory over Guingamp.
Neymar’s old team, Barcelona, played rival Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup Sunday. Real Madrid’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal but got suspended five games for illegal contact with a referee.
Golf
Who said golf is boring? There was plenty of action on the back nine of the PGA Championship (golf’s fourth Major tournament) Sunday. Five golfers were tied for the lead but ultimately 24-year-old Justin Thomas won his first Major.

Surprising? More like a trend. This marks the eighth time in the last nine Majors that a first-time champion hoisted the winner’s trophy.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Get your Modelo and mole ready because the NBA announced that they will host two regular season games (Brooklyn Nets – Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets – Miami Heat) in Mexico City. This marks the 25th anniversary of the first NBA games played south of the border.
The league also revealed its popular Christmas Day games, which includes a matchup of the two best teams and last three NBA Finals participants, the Golden State Warriors versus the Cleveland Cavaliers.
National Football League (NFL)
The NFL season starts in three weeks, and the top stories are off-the-field.
Dallas Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliot (age 22) was suspended six games for domestic violence issues. He is considering an appeal.
Persona non grata….Remember Colin Kaepernick, the player who sat then kneeled during the pre-game National Anthem rendition last year? He is still looking for a job despite being one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Perhaps NBC will expand the franchise to include a reality sports series: #Blacklist2
