Coco and Justice League were the top performers at the box office this weekend but the force will be with Star Wars: The Last Jedi as it launches Tuesday.
On the football field the NFL’s top two teams won again and are pulling away from the pack, and college football’s primetime player was crowned on Saturday.

Here are three things you need to know:
1) The Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers share the NFL’s best record but both have upcoming challenges
2) Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield ran away with the Heisman Trophy
3) Baseball buzz is back in New York with the Yankees acquiring reigning MVP Giancarlo StantonNational Football League (NFL)
National Football League (NFL)
Bittersweet…The Philadelphia Eagles survived the Los Angeles Rams Sunday raising their record to a league-best 11-2. Cheesesteaks all around, right. Not so fast. MVP candidate quarterback Carson Wentz (a Prince Harry look alike) tore his ACL diving into the end zone, hurting the Eagles’ playoff prospects.

Sunday night the Pittsburgh Steelers edged out their bitter rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, 39-38. The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 500 yards (becoming the only QB in NFL history with three such games) but the focus was on fourth-year linebacker Ryan Shazier. During the game the standout defender was in a Pittsburgh hospital recovering from spinal stabilization surgery but was able to Facetime with his teammates after the victory. #Shazier #Shalieve
The defending champion New England Patriots fell to the Miami Dolphins Monday night but at 10-3 the Patriots still control their destiny for the top AFC’s top seed.
Holliday shopping plans on Sunday? Don’t expect NFL fans to be focused…New England takes on Pittsburgh Sunday at 4:25pm ET in the season’s marquee game.
Get them some wings. The most entertaining game this week may have been the Buffalo Bills beating the Indianapolis Colts in overtime in the heavy snow.

Can you hear me now? If you were worried about the NFL’s finances with lower TV ratings and the National Anthem controversy this season, don’t be. The league just signed a five-year, $2.5 billion sponsorship deal with Verizon.
College Football
To nobody’s surprise, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was awarded the Heisman Trophy Saturday as college football’s most outstanding player.

What’s is surprising however is that Mayfield, the third-highest vote getter in 81 years, began his remarkable journey as a walk-on at Texas Tech – something no other Heisman trophy winner has had to overcome.
Major League Baseball (MLB)
A new Twin Towers in New York. Even though baseball is technically in its offseason, New York Yankees fans received an early holiday gift in the form of Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. At 6’6” 245 pounds Stanton towered over the competition and won the National League MVP. Stanton will share the primetime spotlight with the Yankees young stud – AL MVP runner-up Aaron Judge, who stands 6’7” and weighs 282 pounds. #WorldSeriesOrBust
Interestingly, five-time champion and former Yankees legend Derek Jeter, a current Marlins owner and COO, made the deal to send Stanton to the Bronx.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Say your name again…All eyes are on Milwaukee Bucks all-star Giannis Antetokounmpo, affectionately called the “Greek Freak.” The Greek of Nigerian decent is punishing rims and the rest of the league. He is second in scoring and a top MVP candidate.

Welcome back…Kawhi. San Antonio Spurs fans are ecstatic for Kawhi Leonard’s return after missing the season’s first 27 games. The former NBA champion and two-time Defensive Player of the Year will make his season debut Tuesday. The Spurs held down the fort nicely without Leonard, sitting in third place in the West with a 19-8 record.
