The Walking Dead, Empire, This Is Us and SNL are all “In” this Fall. “Out” are Lethal Weapon and Pure Genius. Which shows are you watching?
Is your team “In” or “Out?” That’s what fans across the country are asking as the college football final-four was announced and pro football playoff races are taking shape.
National Football League (NFL)
Fashionistas get excited about Manolo’s, Louboutin’s and Jimmy Choo’s, so why not athletes and their cleats? Aspiring designers took a shot at customizing football cleats.
Giving is “In.” Foot gear was all the rage on the field this week as the NFL encouraged players to customize and don cleats in support of their favorite charity. My Cause, My Cleats was a big hit.

Cancer is “Out.” Meet Kansas City Chiefs star safety Eric Berry. He is a cancer survivor who retuned home to Atlanta Sunday and scored twice (yes, on defense) to lead his squad to a victory. Berry proudly displayed purple cleats to promote Hodgkin’s Lymphoma awareness. #BerryStrong
On Sunday night, reigning MVP Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was “Out,” at least for the game’s first snap. He was benched for a wardrobe violation (weird because Cam is typically dressed to impress), and his backup proceeded to throw an interception on his only play. Woops. It didn’t get any better from there as the Seattle Seahawks crushed the Panthers 40-7.
The AFC’s two “In” teams looked good over the weekend. The Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots, both now 10-2, had relatively easy wins. Sunday’s victory was Pats’ Tom Brady’s 201st making him the winningest QB in NFL history. (Being married to Gisele some would say is also a winning proposition). The Raiders play the Chiefs Thursday night for first place in the AFC West.
College Football
The verdict is “In.” The judges have spoken, and the stakes are far bigger than on The Voice. The College Football Playoff selection committee, comprised of 11 football coaches and administrators plus former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (herself a huge football fan), chose the top-4 teams that will play for the National Championship.
Drumroll please…
#1 Alabama
#2 Clemson
#3 Ohio State
#4 Washington
On the outside looking in, and still upset the playoffs aren’t an eight-team tournament, are: Penn State, Michigan, and Oklahoma.
The Heisman Trophy, given to the top collegiate football player, will be handed out Saturday. Look for Louisville’s Lamar Jackson to bring home the hardware.

Akron native LeBron James lost a wager to best friend and former teammate Dwyane Wade, a Chicago native, on the outcome of October’s World Series. The Chicago Cubs won and LeBron had to wear a Cubs baseball uniform Friday when his Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to meet Wade’s Chicago Bulls.
Cleveland lost but still owns the Eastern Conference’s best record. On Monday the Cavs flexed their muscle against the Toronto Raptors, the biggest threat to reaching a third straight NBA Finals.
History in the making? Oklahoma City Thunder megastar Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple double (double digits in points, rebounds and assists). The feat has only been done over a complete NBA season once: in 1962 by Hall-of-Famer Oscar Robertson.
Westbrook’s only competition for league MVP right now is Houston Rockets guard James Harden, the man with the fabulous and “sticky” beard. Westbrook and Harden will faceoff against each other Friday night in Oklahoma City.
Golf
Remember me? El Tigre is back “In” the game. Tiger Woods, the world’s best golfer for over a decade, whose career was derailed by injuries and marital scandal, returned to his sport. Woods chose the Hero World Championship in the Bahamas for his comeback…And why not play golf in the Bahamas? Tiger wound up 15th in a 17-player field. Just finishing the tournament is an accomplishment for him these days, but fans are looking for much more in 2017.
Remember at TINK Sports we watch the games so you don’t have to.
See you next time…
