The anticipation is over for Hugh Jackman and X-Men fans as the final installment of Wolverine arrived in theaters. Logan was the clear weekend box office winner with an estimated $85 million opening.
March Madness is finally here, too, and it’s almost time to fill out those brackets. Football’s future stars got sized up at the annual Combine in Indianapolis.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Need more peace and quiet in your life? That’s what the New York Knicks tried to provide Sunday when they abandoned all music and entertainment in the first half of Sunday’s game. (Or maybe the DJ worked an epic wedding the night before and came to work late). Either way, many players and fans didn’t care for the silence. What didn’t change, however, is the outcome as the Knicks lost to the Golden State Warriors continuing their dismal season.

Family Feud…The Los Angeles Lakers, one of the top-two NBA franchises is in the midst of serious sibling drama. The patriarch and former owner, Dr. Jerry Buss, died in 2013 and left the team to his children. Now two brothers are trying to boot their other brother and sister. No wonder they are the second-worst team in the league this season.
The defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers set an NBA record with 25 three pointers Friday versus the Atlanta Hawks. Four-time MVP, LeBron James, not known as a great shooter, led the way with six 3s. Here’s a quick video recap. All is not well in “The Land”, however, as the injury-plagued Cavs have lost both games since the shooting showcase.
Cooking up a storm…While all eyes are on Oklahoma City Thunder MVP frontrunner Russell Westbrook, his teammate is on fire as well. Enes Kanter, the 6’11” center from Turkey, is one of the best bench players in the league, and a kind-hearted chef, too. He is donating 5,000 meals after each of his cooking shows.
National Football League (NFL)
The NFL Combine, a showcase for aspiring college prospects, wrapped up in Indianapolis. The show of athleticism was remarkable.
Jumping Jack…Texas A&M’s Myles Jarrett will likely be the first pick in April’s NFL Draft…if he ever lands from his ridiculous 41” vertical jump (at 272 pounds, no less).

Run John Run…University of Washington wide receiver John Ross cemented his position as the fastest NFL prospect of all-time, running the 40-yard dash in a Combine-record 4.22 seconds. How fast is that? Take a look…but don’t blink you might miss him.
Ross cost himself a vacation spot, however, as Adidas pledged to give an island to anyone who broke the 40-yard dash record in their shoes. Unfortunately for Ross he ran in Nikes but did sign a deal with the Swoosh allowing him to keep smiling.
Major League Baseball (MLB)
While the boys of summer kick off the MLB season April 2, 16 countries are currently competing in the World Baseball Classic. Wait…Isn’t baseball an American sport? Actually, there is good baseball played in several countries in the Caribbean, Asia and Canada.
The tournament delivered its first surprise Monday with Israel shocking South Korea, 2-1.
College Basketball
Closing out the regular season was college basketball’s top rivalry, North Carolina versus Duke, with the two schools separated by a mere eight miles. UNC won 90-83 and looks to be a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament barring any stumbles this week.
February is officially behind us and March Madness has begun. Look for a week-long game of musical chairs to determine who makes the 68-team NCAA tournament. Who’s in and who’s out will be revealed on the tournament selection show Sunday at 5:30pm ET on CBS.

Northwestern players, students and alums will be glued to the TV with high hopes Sunday. The Wildcats have put together a nice season but have the dubious distinction of being one of the five original Division I teams (out of 160) that has never qualified for the NCAA Tournament. #WaitedLongEnough
