Temperatures are not the only thing on the rise right now. The world is going crazy for Pokemon, the British Open concluded with a fantastic finish, and baseball is gearing up for its second half.

Golf
Swedish Pride. In a hated battle for the British Open title, Henrk Stenson, the 40-year-old Swede beat Phil Mickelson, the 46-year-old American, by three strokes to take home the Claret Jug.
Stenson shot a record 20-under par and became the first Scandinavian man in 145 years to win the British Open. This was Stenson’s first Major title, and even more amazingly, the 11th time Mickelson has been a bridesmaid at a Major tournament.
National Football League (NFL)
Take the air out of the “Deflategate” saga. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Tom Brady’s latest appeal Wednesday, and the New England Patriots QB has decided to serve his four-game suspension. More date nights with Gisele in September.
The biggest name NFL free agent signing this offseason was Denver Broncos star and Super Bowl MVP Von Miller who inked a six-year $114.5 million deal with $70 million guaranteed. That’s a lot of money, even by NFL standards. Miller became the richest non-quarterback in the league and the highest-paid player in Broncos history.
Hot under the collar…The signing was not without friction, however. Miller participated in the team trip to the White House in the offseason but made no secret of his anger toward the organization. In fact, Miller cropped general manager John Elway out of a picture taken at Barack’s House before posting it on Twitter. #HardFeelings
Congrats to Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and Ciara who tied the knot in London last week. The hot young couple did everything well except leave themselves some anniversary cake.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Move over Rocky…Philadelphia is on the comeback. After being the worst team in the NBA for the past few years, the Philadelphia 76ers might be ready to turn it around. #1 overall pick Ben Simmons looks great in summer league and previously injured center Joel Embiid is ready to play his first NBA game. They will be joined by 22-year-old Croatian Dario Saric, a 6’10” power forward they drafted two years ago but opted to played with his Turkish team instead. Can you blame him for leaving Turkey now?
Major League Baseball (MLB)
Remember us?…The boys of summer are finally getting some love. After starting the season in April, baseball ceded the sports stage to the basketball and hockey playoffs, but is now heating up.
Keep an eye out for the American League’s leading hitter, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve. Standing just 5’5”, the Venezuelan All-Star is the shortest active player in the league. #StandTall
Like a bad dream…the National League’s leading hitter is Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy. The 31-year-old Murphy was a huge part of the New York Mets’ run to the World Series last year but New York didn’t show him the money in the offseason. The red-hot Murphy is haunting his former team, leading his Nats to a six-and-a-half game lead over the highly favored Mets.
Panic in New York? New York’s other baseball team, The Yankees, fell below .500 (a losing record) in the second half of the season for the first time since 1995. Maybe the only exciting Yankee-related news recently is that former captain Derek Jeter, 42, tied the knot with Hannah Davis, the 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model in Napa Valley on Saturday.
Olympics
The Olympic games in Rio are less than three weeks away, with the opening ceremony scheduled for August 5. Viva Brasil!
In Case You Missed It…
ESPN had it’s annual award ceremony, the ESPYs, Wednesday. There were several moving moments, including a joint statement by LeBron James, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade, as well as an inspirational speech by long-time broadcaster, crazy dresser and cancer survivor, Craig Sager.
