Expectations exceeded…Jurassic Park 2 and Incredibles 2 both had another stellar weekend.
The World Cup is now in the win-or-go home stage, and favorites keep dropping.
Let’s see what’s going on in the sports world…
TINK Sports Big-3
Here are three things you need to know:
1) The seismic signing in NBA free agency was LeBron James heading to the Los Angeles Lakers but other teams have been busy as well
2) The World Cup is moving through its group stage, and fans are on edge trying to will their teams forward
3) The arch-rival Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees continue to separate themselves from the pack as the best teams in baseball
National Basketball Association (NBA)
Show me the money…NBA Free Agency started Saturday with a bang. How much? Teams ponied up $1 billion in the first day alone.
Changing kingdoms. The biggest free agent of all, LeBron “King” James, is taking his talents from the Cleveland Cavalierss to Los Angeles Lakers. James, a native of Akron, is still the world’s best basketball player.

For his efforts, LeBron will earn $153 million over the next four years. LA, which hasn’t made the playoffs in the past five seasons, has become an NBA finals contender overnight.
Other big signing include Chris Paul returning to the Houston Rockets and Paul George re-upping with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Monday also brought the shocking news that DeMarcus Cousins, one of the NBA’s top centers, signed a one-year deal to join the NBA’s mega-team, the Golden State Warriors. Expectations were already sky high for the Warriors who were predicted by many to win their fourth title in five years. Fans have begun floating the “best team ever” idea.
Soccer
The World Cup, the top global team sporting event, continues to deliver surprises. Favorites Argentina, Spain and Germany are all out sending home two of the world’s best players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The story thus far is Russia, the host country. The Russian’s, heavy underdogs to Spain, the 2010 World Cup champs, bunkered in and won on penalty kicks Sunday. Celebration in Red Square…the Russian team advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1970.
Belgium seemed hung over from too many Duvels the night before but woke up to overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat Japan Monday.
Have plans this week? Make sure you know the World Cup schedule:
- Uruguay vs. France (Friday, July 6, 10:00am ET)
- Brazil vs. Belgium (Friday, July 6, 2:00pm ET)
- Sweden / Switzerland winner vs. Columbia / England winner (Saturday, July 7, 10:00am ET)
- Russia vs. Croatia (Saturday, July 7, 2:00pm ET)
Tennis
Break out your whites as Wimbledon started Monday and runs for a couple weeks. While many are focused on Russia and the World Cup, tennis’ third Major of the season is still very meaningful.
Roger Federer, the eight-time Wimbledon champ is the number one seed on the men’s side. Simona Halep, the world’s top ranked player and French Open champion, leads the women’s field.
Major League Baseball (MLB)
The baseball season is roughly half over and four teams are currently head and shoulders above the rest. The AL East rival New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have the two best records in baseball and played a three-game series in the Bronx over the weekend (which the Yankees took 2-1).

The other pair of top teams, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners, also play in the same division (AL West).
