The force was certainly with Star Wars: The Last Jedi raking in $220 million domestically in its first week. All the Money in the World, Downsizing and Pitch Perfect 3 will try to capture some of their own box office mojo this Christmas Weekend.
Now, let’s look at the forces shaping the sports world…

Here are three things you need to know:
1) The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots pulled off a big win and are positioning themselves for another title run
2) The NFL’s Los Angeles Rams keep winning, and in the process are writing a Hollywood story with a remarkable franchise turnaround
3) Two NBA greats, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, were both in the spotlight this week for different causes
National Football League (NFL)
The game of the season took place Sunday afternoon when two of the NFL’s top teams met. After late game twists the New England Patriots pulled a rabbit out of a hat and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, wrestling back the AFC’s top spot, and potentially home field advantage for a playoff rematch.
Hollywood ending? That’s what the Los Angeles Rams are hoping for this season. One of the worst NFL teams the past several years, the Rams moved from St. Louis (their home for the past 21 years) back to LA. These new-look Rams have a 31-year-old coach and at 10-4 might be the best turnaround story in league history.

Green Bay Packers star QB Aaron Rodgers’ return from an eight-week layoff post shoulder surgery was ruined by a loss to the Carolina Panthers. Rather than celebrating, the Panthers were being questioned about the mess created by their owner (and former NFL player) Jerry Richardson.
Richardson was accused of several incidents of sexual misconduct. Richardson’s penalty? He announced that he would be selling the team after the season, with an estimated $2.5 billion price tag. The organization did make one change, though, with Tina Barker given day-to-day control of the team.
National Basketball Association (NBA)
One of the NBA’s unstoppable forces, five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, had his jersey retied Monday.
What’s your favorite number, 8 or 24? That was the question as Kobe wore both jerseys in LA. The solution – retire both.

In the name of Equality…Another all-time great, LeBron James, used his feet to take a social stand just blocks from the White House in a win over the Washington Wizards Sunday.

Speaking of LeBron…While the Boston Celtics continue to lead the Eastern Conference, James’ Cleveland Cavaliers have won 19 of their last 20 games and are applying heat to the Celts.
At 25-4 the Houston Rockets own the NBA’s best record and are playing outstanding basketball. Like the Celtics in the East, however, the Rockets are hearing footsteps as the defending champion Golden State Warriors are within striking distance.
Major League Baseball (MLB)
While baseball is in its offseason, Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife were busy making headlines. Feeling the Christmas spirit, the couple donated their $9.2 million Missouri mansion to charity. #NicePitch
